Baby found on porch in Arkansas: Abandoned newborn baby in good health, police searching for mother

“Baby found on porch” is the headline emerging from the state of Arkansas. A woman from Pine Berry, returned from work on Monday afternoon to find an infant, just few hours old, wrapped in a blanket lying on the porch. The police have issued a press release asking for the public’s help in locating the baby’s mother or parents.

Baby found on porch and the story makes headlines, reports Examiner. On Monday, at around 4 p.m., after a hard day’s work, a person residing in Pine Berry Lane in Garland County, Arkansas, returned home and discovered a newborn baby on her porch.

The individual immediately called the officers from Garland County Sheriff’s Department. According to the police, the baby was wrapped in a blanket, placed in a basket, which was sitting on the front porch.

Talking to local media, Deputy Scott Hinojosa revealed that the baby was few hours old, when he or she was abandoned on the porch.

Hinojosa went on to explain that the baby was taken to St. Vincent’s in Hot Springs and doctors concluded that he/she was doing well. The press release contained the following information:

“A newborn infant was found abandoned today (March 9, 2015) on the front porch of a residence in western Garland County. At approximately 4:20 P.M., Garland County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on Pine Berry Lane, after the homeowner arrived home and found the infant lying on the porch, wrapped in a blanket. It appeared as though the infant was no more than a few hours old when the homeowner located it.”

But nonetheless, the baby was transferred to the Children’s Hospital in Little Rock for further examination and they decided to keep him/her for few hours in observation.

The baby found on the porch is now in custody of the Arkansas Department of Human Services. Police are actively searching for the child’s mother or anyone else who may be able to explain why the baby was abandoned.
