Anya Ayoung-Chee Is Project Runway Winner – Anya Ayoung-Chee has been crowned the winner of Project Runway season 9 amidst controversy.
The 29-year-old who was Miss Trinidad and Tobago was inspired by her native islands to cook up a very light, breezy, collection with large lines and bold prints to win the competition during Fashion Week in Lincoln Center.
Anya Ayoung-Chee who won $100,000 from L’Oreal Paris, the opportunity to showcase her talent in a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine has many fashion experts and former contestants criticizing her for having no kind of experience nor training in the business.
Ayoung-Chee has admitted that she has almost no skills in sewing and that she decided to take this whole fashion thing seriously about four months ago.
The other fashionistas are a bit angry and disappointed at the show because gave the title to someone who never went to design school and never worked as a designer before (they believe one of the more experience designers with a diploma should have won).
Some are wondering why go waste time and money in a fashion school when a former TV host can win Project Runway without even knowing how to work a sewing machine correctly.
The critics are not keeping Anya Ayoung-Chee down, she has plans to sell a collection on Piperlime.com very soon and use the $50,000 given to her by HP and Intel to push other young talents from the Caribbean.
The accidental-designer can sleep well at night because numerous celebrities have already contacted her to design tropical-inspired outfits for them.
