At 41 pounds, a 10-month-old baby girl from Jharkhand, India, has become an internet sensation.

Mohammad Saleem and Shabana Parveen, who are the parents of Aliya Saleem, have opened up to several media outlets about their struggle to feed, care and find a cure for their 10-month-old child who is as heavy as a six-year-old child.

Shabana Parveen confessed that her baby was born weighing 9 pounds and by 4 months, she started gaining weight at a very rapid pace. The mother went on to reveal that despite the fact that they live in poverty, they have to find ways to buy their 41-pound-baby new clothes every week.

According to the desperate mother, the 10-month-old baby weighing 41 pounds, eats a lot of curry, crackers and she has difficulties holding the child on her lap. Little Aliya also has problems sleeping and difficulties breathing. The 25-year-old stay-at-home mom, said:

“A few months after her birth, she starting gaining weight. We had to buy her a new pair of clothes every two weeks because the old ones become too tight for her.”

Miss Parveen explained that she is very worried for her baby’s health, because they lost their daughter, Simran, at just one-and-a-half due to the fact that she had gained rapid and excessive weight like baby Aliya.

Saleem, 28, who makes less than $5 dollars a day, said that the family did not have enough money to take their toddler to see a specialist and went on to share that heartbreaking story of the day they lost Simran. The Indian man shared:

“Simran had breakfast in the morning. I left for work after that. I got a call that Simran was not well and blood was coming out of her mouth. We rushed her to the hospital, but the doctors told us that her nerves had been damaged and she passed away.”

Saleem said that they could only afford to take Aliya to the local hospital, where the doctors have not been able to determine what is causing her weight gain. Aliya’s parents recently managed to get a consultation at Fortis Hospital on the outskirts of Delhi, where Dr Krishan Chugh, head of paediatrics, examined the heaviest baby in the world. The health expert said:

“This is the heaviest baby at 10 months of age that I have seen. I have seen 10kg-plus, 12kg-plus babies in the past. But this is way above the rest. Over 18 kilograms is an extreme weight figure.”

He went on to add that the baby’s weight might be caused by morbid obesity or even a hormonal imbalance. But at this moment, he does not have a clear answer and plans to do more test on the baby.
